Amakhosi Pressured to Drop Brandon Petersen
Kaizer Chiefs are facing calls to drop Brandon Petersen from the squad.
In recent games, Petersen has committed serious defensive errors that have both hindered Chiefs and helped their opponents.
Last Wednesday, 26 August, the 31-year-old shotstopper was egregiously slow to clear the ball during the Soweto giants’ game against Richards Bay; this enabled Nqaba Xulu to give the Durban outfit a 1-0 lead.
Speaking to a local soccer outlet on Sunday, 30 August, veteran goalkeeping coach Alex Heredia urged Amakhosi to have Bruce Bvuma replace Petersen, whom he believes is prone to making “horrible mistakes.”
“I would drop Petersen and play Bvuma,” said Heredia, “and the reason is the inconsistency of Petersen over the years. Yes, he has fantastic games, but he also makes horrible mistakes.”
He continued: “[Petersen is] not consistent; this is the biggest problem. And now when you play him, you never know how he’s going to react. He can be the ‘Man of the Match’ or he can make the team lose because of silly mistakes. In my opinion, if there is an alternative goalkeeper, they have Bvuma.”
Petersen has yet to respond to Heredia’s comments.
